Highly qualified specialists in the dental industry
Orthodontics is a field of specialised dentistry that aims to rectify mispositioned teeth and jaws and misaligned bite patterns in both developing and developed facial structures.
Ideally, when we bite down, our upper fixed jaw (maxilla) and lower movable jaw (mandible) should fit comfortably together with the lower jaw just inside the upper jaw with the teeth aligned. When this goes wrong, we call it a malocclusion (misalignment). There are various types of malocclusion from mild to extremely severe, but the common ones are described as an ‘overbite’, ‘under bite’ and / or ‘crowded jaw’. In some cases, ear, head, neck aches, teeth grinding, and even migraine headaches can be associated with malocclusion of the mouth!
Typically, treatment takes 1 to 2 years but could be longer depending on the type of treatment and the severity of the case.
With more than 10,000 patients already treated, Dr Singh has the experience and the expertise to help you, if you would like an assessment consultation, get in touch!
An overly simplified explanation of some of the malocclusions are:
Healthy Bite
Our teeth align with the lower jaw slightly inside the upper jaw.
Underbite
An underbite occurs when the lower jaw is too far forward, too large, or both.
Over Bite
An overbite is when the upper jaw extends too far over a smaller lower jaw.
Open Bite
An open bite occurs when the front upper and lower teeth do not meet during biting.
